Last night’s meeting was about bringing everyone on the foundation course up to speed with the practical assessments we had completed so far. Overall a lot of knowledge was shared, and it was useful to have experienced radio amateurs such as Rich and Ken around to answer questions! Last night we had a fantastic evening completing the rest of the Foundation Practical assessments.   We brought along a VHF radio (on loan from the Thornbury and South Gloucestershire ARC) and a portable HF radio loaned to us by Paul GW4KTT. On 7th February, 2018, the Swansea Radio Society had it’s first Annual General Meeting.   The meeting was opened by the society’s founder, Peter Barnes M0SWN. This year we hosted Youngsters On The Air Month. We operated from B001 all day from using the prestigious call-sign GB17YOTA. We operated using 20m SSB using an 60′ mobile tower. The event was a huge success and drew in lots of students. We also had a visit from our regional manager, Glyn Jones GW0ANA. New Society!

New Society!

Swansea Radio Society has been made an official society by the Student Union! We have lots to do: organise a permanent antenna installation on the roof of Engineering East, run our YOTA Month event on December 14th. There are currently 41 students who have registered their interest in the society, and we will be hosting our first meeting soon.
